The
End of Nowhere: June 23, 2008, 8:41 a.m.
He had received
the call at seven o'clock in the morning alerting him that the moving company
was in the process of bringing in all of the items to be placed in the new
home, and that by 8:30 they would be done.
Will was stunned at the speed at which the project was finished; to have
the old house torn down and a new one built took a total of two weeks. It was unheard of for a private party to have
a house completed that quickly. However,
Will thought the cost justified and as he drove to the End of Nowhere to get a
look at the house before bringing Elyssa there, he was already imagining the
shock on her face when she saw the house he had built for her.
Joe Nelson was
waiting for him as he shut off his truck and clambered out of it, striding
forward to shake the hand of his old friend.
"Well, Joe? How's it
look?"
Joe handed him a
key, and with a smile added, "Go look for yourself."
Will did exactly
that. Twenty minutes later, as he came
out, a deep smile was etched on his face.
"Oh, man…Elyssa is absolutely going to flip when she sees this
place. You guys did an incredible job in
the brief time you worked. The price tag
is well worth it, sir."
"De
nada. For an old friend,
it's the least I could do. I'll leave
you to show your gal the new place."
"I appreciate
it, Joe. Next time we come this way,
I'll send some tickets for you and the crew to come see the show live."
Joe nodded and
after another shake of the hands, Will was left alone facing the new
building. A sense of satisfaction filled
him, and he hopped in the truck to drive to Edgewood. He wanted to pick up Elyssa himself and show
her the final result, as she had not been up here since the day Will had
authorized the construction of the place.
He thought she
would be happy with the result.
\___(^)___/
"Will, can I
open my eyes yet?"
"Almost,
Elyssa. We're almost there."
"Where are
you taking me, though?"
"That's part
of the surprise. Trust me, dear."
"All
right." She still seemed uncertain
about it all, but he knew she would work with him, as he pulled into the End of
Nowhere and followed the new asphalt driveway to the front of the new
house. He shut down the truck, and
sighed. It was time.
"All right,
Elyssa. We're here. Open your eyes and take a look."
A moment later she
let out a squeal of glee that he never would have expected from such a
no-nonsense type. She quickly scrambled
out of the truck to look around, as Will slowly walked to the door, the key in
hand. He noted with a bit of wry
amusement that she was trying to take in everything at once, as he unlocked the
front door and stood there, waiting. A moment
or two later, she finally joined him.
"Will, when
did--"
"There will
be time for questions later, milady.
There's still an entire interior to explore."
Will remained in
the living room, allowing Elyssa look around to her heart's content. Her cries of delight echoed within the house,
punctuated occasionally with an "I don't believe this!" A minute later, he heard the sliding door
open, and smiled. The ear-splitting
squeal he heard a moment later confirmed that she had found the indoor
pool. He stood up and slowly walked that
way, knowing that she had basically seen everything that was there to be
seen. As he approached her, she was
still staring in awe at the pool, and he walked up behind her, gently embracing
her as she continued to stare. "So,
Elyssa…how do you like your new place?"
"M…My
new place?"
"Yes. I had this made specifically for you, after
all. Why do you think the master bedroom
is done in blues, as that is your favorite color? Why do you see decorations of dolphins and
dragons all around, as I know you like both?"
"Will…I…."
"I know it's
too much to deal with at the moment, Elyssa.
But realize that this is your place to stay in as long as you choose
to."
"Will…are you
sure about this?"
"I am. After everything you and I have been through
in the past few years and again recently, I feel like I would be making a
mistake if I let you go. I admit…I've
kinda sorta fallen for you. And if I let
you walk away now, I would forever be asking myself, 'what might have
been?' Life is too short to be asking
ourselves that."
The silence he got
in response was almost too much for him to bear, but he knew she was thinking
about what he had said. Sure, in the
last two weeks the two of them had developed a bond stronger than any
friendship. And although nothing had yet
come of it, there was that hint of inevitability--of destiny, if you want--in
the air whenever the two of them were together.
A few long, silent
seconds passed before Elyssa spoke.
"Will. You've done far more
than anyone could ever ask a friend to do.
You've gone out of your way to make me feel welcome, to share your home
with me, and to let me see firsthand what you are willing to do when you have
conviction in your corner."
At this, she
slowly turned around, facing Will and leaning more into his embrace. "Most of all, you've shown me that deep
inside, you truly care about most people, and you've shown me a side to you
that I never thought I would see.
"And I want
to see more."
Will looked down,
to where Elyssa's green eyes gazed intently into his brown ones. Then, as if slowly drawn by fate--or by
love--they pushed past the final barrier that had been keeping them apart.
No more needs to
be said of what happened next. That
moment is best left for those who lived it, to keep to themselves for the rest
of time.
The
End of Nowhere: June 23, 12:45 p.m.
It almost pains me
to think about the show coming up, especially after the events of the last few
hours. However, with Elyssa passed out
on her bed, and with me taking a jog around the place, my mind is left to its'
own devices…and that leads to the show coming up.
I find it amusing
that the Legacy champ can ask for a week off and get it, when you have people
like myself who have yet to take a show off, proving to all who attend our
shows and watch them on pay-per-view that I am the one more deserving of the
title. Apparently he must see me as more
of a threat than he originally thought, if he wants to rest up before our
match. That's all fine and good,
though. Let him get his rest. I don't want there to be any excuses when I
kick his ass in a month's time.
And inevitably, my
mind goes from Draco to the poor guy who gets treated worse than anyone else in
NLW (including myself). Of course, I am
referring to Harvey Danger. Unlike most
of the other workers, fans, backstage staff, and so forth, I actually respect
the guy for coming out show after show dealing with the ridicule he suffers
through.
However, that
doesn't mean that I'm going to go easy on you, Harvey. No offense intended, but once the bell rings
and you're in the ring with me, it's all business. I may think you're one of the few good people
in this business, but that will not stop me from trying to win the match.
Most people, when
given this chance and knowing of the history that Harvey and Draco have had in
the past, would say something to the effect of "I'm going to make an
example out of you." I'm not going
to do that. Seriously, what is the point
of injuring someone else just to try to intimidate a third party? It makes no sense to me. Harvey is a separate entity from Draco, and
that's how I'm going to treat this situation.
Draco…"champ"…your
time is coming soon enough. Harvey, all
I can say is good luck at Uprising. I'm
not about to let you walk over me, respect or not.
For in the end, I
will see it done.
